He assisted in the development of the atomic bomb and was a member of the panel that investigated the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. During his lifetime and after his death, Feynman became one of the most publicly known scientists in the world. Feynman developed a widely used pictorial representation scheme for the mathematical expressions governing the behavior of subatomic particles, which later became known as Feynman diagrams. For his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics, Feynman was a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965, together with Julian Schwinger and Sin-Itiro Tomonaga. ![]() Richard Phillips Feynman was an American physicist known for the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics and the physics of the superfluidity of supercooled liquid helium, as well as work in particle physics (he proposed the parton model). ![]()

I have been teaching Marshal McLuhan’s Understanding Media to undergraduates for 18 years. With its mosaic style Understanding Media is not an easy book to understand or to teach to students. Terrance Gordon argues that “ Understanding Media occupies a central place in McLuhan’s work” but also says that the book “defies summary” (“Editor’s Introduction” xiii). ![]() More recently, Nicholas Carr wrote that Understanding Media is “oracular, gnomic, and mind-bending” (1). At the time the Commonweal Review called the book “infuriating, brilliant, and incoherent” (Gordon, "Critical Reception" 545). ![]() 1 With these words on the first page of Understanding Media published in 1964, Marshall McLuhan burst onto the intellectual scene with his most influential book. “After three thousand years of explosion, by means of fragmentary and mechanical technologies, the Western world is imploding” (McLuhan 3). ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Hex hall![]() ![]() You have a boarding school for witches, in a remote location, a protagonist unfamiliar with her own family history, mysterious attacks on students, faculty members who pooh-pooh student warnings of evil penetrating the school walls, ghosts interacting with students, a teacher who “has it in” for the protagonist, etc. That said, I am sure other reviewers have criticized Hex Hall for being too-similar to Harry Potter, and I can kind of see that argument. Other reviews could taint my opinion or make me think someone else’s opinion is my own. The story of chaos is usually told like this: Using the LGP-30, Lorenz made paradigm-wrecking discoveries. Instructions for the computer came from down the hall, from the office of a meteorologist named Edward Norton Lorenz. It was so loud that it even got its own office on the fifth floor in Building 24, a drab structure near the center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This “desk” computer - it was the size of a desk - weighed some 800 pounds and sounded like a passing propeller plane. It came not from a petri dish, a beaker or an astronomical observatory, but from the vacuum tubes and diodes of a Royal McBee LGP-30. A little over half a century ago, chaos started spilling out of a famous experiment. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Das parfum book![]() ![]() ![]() However, there is one scent he is particularly attracted to and it turns out to belong to a beautiful young woman. Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe Microtargeting transforms the public square of politics into the psychological mugging of every voter.” In combination with the platforms’ persuasive technologies, microtargeting becomes another tool for dividing us. In theory, each voter could be attracted to a candidate for a different reason. If a campaign knows a voter believes strongly in protecting the environment, it can craft a personalized message blaming the other candidate for not doing enough, even if that is not true. Instead they can invert the model, using microtargeting to identify whatever issue motivates each voter and play to that.
